The Village at Edgewater is dedicated to entertaining, educating, and empowering parents and their children, ages zero to five years old. We try to meet the needs of both parents and their children, in a market that has traditionally only focused on meeting the needs of one or the other. Our organization allows for socialization, education, support, empowerment, and interaction both within the family unit and within the community around them. Families will find an indoor play space, parent-and-me classes, support groups, exercise classes, a baby-friendly restaurant, and an internet message board that allows for a more cohesive sense of community. Parents who are a part of The Village at Edgewater will not only attend classes, but will become friends and confidants to other parents – bringing about a stronger sense of community and healthful vision.
* Respect for the children in our society and their drive to learn
* Respect for the important, long lasting, task of raising our future leaders and decision makers
* Respect for the community we serve
By creating a place where parents and babies can congregate several times a week, parents are given a reason to get out of the house and remove themselves from the possibility of isolation that often occurs when someone becomes a new parent. We've created a place of education, companionship, and empowerment. We allow parents to live up to their full potential and offer them resources to grow as parents and learn practical skills in dealing with the different stages of development. A program of nurturing and stimulation alongside a growing community membership leads our members into a stronger connection with the important task of raising the next generation and empowers parents to give onto their children while still maintaining the balance necessary to nurture themselves.
Jaine Murphy created an organization called Moms and Tots San Diego, which closely mirrors the community of parents in the Highlands Mommies group. Moms and Tots San Diego was over 700 mothers and the program created music classes, art classes and support classes to reach this demographic. While Moms and Tots San Diego is a free organization, it taught Jaine a lot about marketing to the community she was trying to reach, taught her how to organize a well-structured organization of ongoing, recurring events that adapted to the ever-changing, ever-growing needs of her membership base, and taught her much about how she could do things better or bigger, given the proper resources.
In 2008, Jaine was honored by Nabisco as one of their 100 Most Extraordinary Women for her work in creating and running Moms and Tots San Diego. It is with great pride that she was able to say that she has helped so many mothers facing post-partum depression, isolation, and the general feelings of incompetence one feels as a first-time mom. Jaine is striving to provide a much more stable structure, with proper teachers to teach the classes, a cleaner, more baby-proof environment, and a true "home" to the programs by creating The Village at Edgewater.
