Village Chef Michael Schock has over 17 years experience working in professional kitchens. He has worked in Denver and Summit County's finest restaurants, learning from some of the most creative and talented chefs in the state. He earned his degree in arts at Colorado Mountain College and an Executive Sommelier Certification at the Art Institute of Colorado.

With many years spent as a competitive athlete, (as high as the semi-pro level), he understands the importance of healthy, nutritionally balanced meals with certain emphasis in mind. Michael also has been the featured chef at many culinary demonstrations, has extensive experience teaching culinary classes, and has been invited to appear on local morning shows to showcase his culinary talents.

Michael has spent a considerable amount of time in every kitchen position from dishwasher to executive chef to business owner. Prior to creating the amazing menu at The Village, he was the executive chef of the Rialto Cafe, a high energy popular restaurant on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver.

Art Classes at The Village:

Village Chef Jessica Swift has been working in hospitality for 7 years. She is the youngest of six children and has a 16 month old son. Currently, she is attending Metropolitan State College of Denver, majoring in Art, with a minor in Education. While Jessica currently enjoys working in the kitchen, she would eventually like to be a middle school Art instructor. She loves working at The Village and getting to see all the smiling faces of the children so close in age to her own son. She's excited to offer Edible Arts and Crafts that are fun for everyone 1-5 years old. As a mom, she knows how much fun messy art classes are, and understands most parents don't want to run those classes out of their homes for fear of clean up, so she's excited to offer an environment of unbridled creativity, regardless of mess, and she'll even do the clean up after!

About Art at The Village:

Our Art class mission is to expand your child's creativity, expose them to new textures, and introduce them to a new way of thinking. We create a fun and free thinking environment where your children can express themselves through many different mediums. We encourage hands-on expression in these classes, and hope to allow for creative interpretation. There are some classes where they will be encouraged to get messy, so make sure to dress or plan accordingly! Children who attend our Art classes will develop:

*Fine motor skills
*Attention to detail and focus
*Process, order and completion
*Visual/spatial organization skills
*Sequencing
*Persistence and follow through
*Patience and discipline
*Artistic creativity

Maureen Hopkins, owner and founder of Altitunes Neurologic Music Therapy, is a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC), with specialized training in Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) from the Robert F. Unkefer Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy. She has nearly 15 years of experience working with children with and without special needs. Her professional memberships include American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and the Colorado Association for Music Therapy (CAMT). Maureen attended Colorado State University (CSU), and graduated with two bachelor degrees; music therapy and psychology. She was both a member and president of the Music Therapy Student Organization. As president, she organized and promoted a multi-band concert, which set a fundraising record for the organization, and generated a high level of community participation, awareness, and education about music therapy through the attention of local newspapers & radio stations. During her third and final practicum, she had the incredible opportunity to work under the supervision of Dr. Blythe Lagasse, who advanced Maureen's ability and skill implementing NMT speech techniques with children.

Following CSU, Maureen completed a six month clinical training music therapy internship with Moved by Music in Canon City, CO. She gained experience in hospitals, assisted living homes and nursing homes with a variety of populations, including; traumatic brain injury, stroke, neurologically impaired, physically impaired, speech impaired, mental illness, Alzheimer's, cancer, chronic pain, comatose and terminally ill. She facilitated one-on-one, small, and large group music therapy interventions to enhance/improve cognition, create an outlet for emotional expression, promote relaxation, decrease pain and anxiety, increase communication skills and improve physical functioning. Her clinical training also provided her experience building the first full-time music therapy position at a nursing home in Colorado, receiving Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement for music therapy services, designing forms for facility wide use and formally documenting music therapy outcomes for an ongoing hospital study.

Yoga Classes at The Village

"Be the change you want to see in the world."-Gandhi

Linda Lou was encouraged by her best friend in 2003 to take a yoga class as a means of stress release while teaching middle school literacy full-time and working towards a master's degree. She had always been an active person basing physical activities around the four seasons: running, skiing, biking, hiking, to name a few. After Linda Lou's first yoga class, she was stunned and amazed by the physical strength, balance, and mental focus required for yoga which launched her own personal voyage. Her passion for yoga has pushed her beyond limits and has sparked an internal fire to share the gift with others.

Linda Lou has been practicing yoga for eight years now. She completed the 200-hour Power Teacher Training in 2008, the Extensions Program in 2009, and Power Teacher Training Level 2 in 2010 through Core Power Yoga (CPY). In addition, Linda Lou completed a 20-hour Prenatal Training at Spiral Wellness Center in Denver, Colorado. Currently, she teaches children's yoga, beginner's yoga, vinyasa flow, and prenatal yoga. Her classes are fun, energetic, and focused on alignment! Outside of yoga, Linda Lou enjoys eating nutritious food, experiencing nature, attending concerts, and traveling around the world with her husband, Mike, and daughter, Cora. She teaches part-time elementary math, science, and social studies.

Mission Statement for Leave No Trace Yoga at The Village

Linda Lou believes that yoga encourages positive change within ourselves on our mats and expands out into the world of our community bringing like-minded people together one neighbor at a time.
